August is a great month in Alaska

The end of July marked my 13th year of participating in the 15th annual Plein Air event, a fundraiser that benefits Clare House. There were 20 very talented artists showcasing their talents and a silent auction of original paintings donated by the artists as well as food, music and giveaways. This was the first year in many years that we had a nice sunny weekend. A big thank you to everyone who attended and supported the cause.

The weather kind of turned crappy in July which results in me having time to paint. I really don't mind bad weather during summer because the light in my atrium is best under clouds, and it's not too hot, nor too cold. it is just right.

I created several floral mini oils on wrapped canvas. The 5x7"s are $150 each and the 4x4"s are $50 each. These are very bright and happy and fit in any space.

I am always so happy when my peonies bloom. They have grown in my garden for about five years but they are still small and tall. Unfortunately, the bloom occurs and is spent within a week, so I cut them and enjoy them quickly. I love painting them and this year I created this beautiful "Heavenly Peonies" painting to sustain me through the rest of the year. It is an 12x12 acrylic on a cradled wooden panel $550

And I have been on an ocean/wave/shoreline kick. I love the water and it's wild, powerful aspect. "Seductive Shoreline" is a 16"x20" oil in a floating frame. $1,300 (so gorgeous if I say so myself).

Once a year, I (we) create a few Lazy Susans. These creations are very time-consuming and require more work than you would imagine. It also requires my husband to pour marine quality resin in the garage and monitor for 24 hours. "We" have finally mastered the technique. These 18" beauties are functional and unique. They are $500 each.

I am feeling very thankful. John and I have a very close friend (healthy, fun, vibrant) who recently passed away with no warning. We all worked together at Carrs and were friends since the '80s.

We lived a very similar lifestyle and just talked a month ago about how blessed we were.

And as the Universe and God would have it, our nephew and his wife just gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. His name is Scotty (which was the nickname that my friend used to call me).

Every day is a gift. We are blessed to live our lives and enjoy our hobbies. And aside from a few aches and pains we have no complaints.
