Weather in Anchorage continues to be drab.
And though it has been a very gloomy summer, my nephew, who now lives in Los Angeles, had his outdoor wedding July 23rd at Alyeska. The clouds parted and it was the most beautiful weekend we've had all summer. So happy for him and his new wife and their new life.
But the great news is gloomy, windy and rainy is perfect for painting and I am getting a lot of fun projects completed!
I am very pleased with this Uncle Joe's Pizza commission. I went to their downtown location, and behind the counter was Derek, a professional dough maker. I videoed him as a reference photo for this painting. I am thrilled that I captured his "dough show" (yes, that is the official term).
And even though the weather has been poor, my garden thrives.
My perennial red poppies bloomed quickly and melted back into the garden. However, I was able to capture their brief blooms of beauty on several wooden panels. I am calling them "Inspired Poppeez".
And a very special commission that I created for my girlfriend was completed in July. It is her husband from the Anchorage shipping docks, gazing at Sleeping Lady. This is a commission that touched my heart and gave me great joy to create.
And to finish off July I am participating once again (shut down during Covid) in the 14th annual Plein Air weekend July 29-30. This is a very fun event with about 20 local artists in an open air setting on a large hillside home. (5801 Barry Ave), Sat and Sun 10-6pm. It's a fundraiser for Clare House and always lots of fun!
As the summer wraps up, I am looking forward to our vacation in September. We are rafting the Grand Canyon. My knee is rehabbing pretty well, so I am looking forward to hiking and enjoying the 10 day adventure (and sun!).
